ClozeLoop integration guide for Slack
The ClozeLoop Slack app brings ClozeLoop's notices into Slack and lets your team send coaching notes and agenda items to ClozeLoop without leaving Slack. This guide covers adding, using, and removing the app, and exactly what ClozeLoop can and cannot see.
/clozeloop command, or the app's Home tab, a person can send a coaching note, add an item to their next one on one, or ask for coaching. Only the message they choose is sent, and only when they choose to send it.ClozeLoop never reads your channels or your direct messages. It has no access to message history. It sees only what is sent to it: a command someone runs, a button someone presses, and a message someone chooses to log to ClozeLoop.
While you add the app, Slack may say that it has not approved ClozeLoop. Slack shows that notice for every app that is not yet listed in the Slack Marketplace. It is not a warning about ClozeLoop. We are working toward a Marketplace listing, and the permissions below are the same either way.
An administrator does this once.
Then bring your team in:
/clozeloop connect in Slack. To pick the ClozeLoop channel, invite the ClozeLoop app to a channel, then run /clozeloop channel there.
/clozeloop note, /clozeloop agenda, or /clozeloop ask, then pick the person and press Save./clozeloop help for every command.ClozeLoop asks Slack only for what it uses.
| Permission | Why ClozeLoop needs it |
|---|---|
chat:write | Send DMs, and post to the channel your administrator picks |
im:write | Open a DM with a person who linked their account |
users:read | Check whether a member is a guest, a bot, or deactivated before inviting or linking them |
users:read.email | Match a Slack member to their ClozeLoop account by email address |
commands | The /clozeloop command and the Log to ClozeLoop shortcut |
channels:read, groups:read | Confirm the ClozeLoop channel exists, that the app is in it, and that it is not shared outside your organization |
mcp:connect | Let Slack's own assistant use ClozeLoop's tools on a person's behalf. ClozeLoop offers no tools through it yet |
ClozeLoop requests no permission to read message history in any channel or DM.
You can disconnect from either side, and either one fully removes ClozeLoop's access.
A person can also unlink only themselves, from the ClozeLoop app's Home tab in Slack or from their ClozeLoop notification settings.
Full detail is in the Slack Integration section of our Privacy Policy.
Someone did not get a Link my account message. Their Slack email must match their ClozeLoop email. If it does not, an administrator can link them from Manage people on the Slack card, or the person can run /clozeloop connect.
ClozeLoop will not use a channel. The app must be invited to the channel first, and the channel must not be shared with another organization.
The connection stopped working. An administrator can click Disconnect and then Connect Slack again from Admin, then Settings.
